A Quick Start-up Guide to Building Backlinks for Your Website

Building backlinks to your website should be the backbone of your web promotion strategy. It is considered to be one of, if not the most, important aspect of increasing your websites visibility on the web by improving search engine listing page rank.

Because of this I have outlined some simple suggestions in order to get going with your linking strategy. There are many ways of obtaining backlinks and it is an easy process, however it can be very monotonous and time consuming. Please build your links responsibly and do not spam the following services in order to get more links quickly. The search engines can penalise sites that gain links too quickly as it is deemed that the links are not naturally built.

Firstly do a search on a search engine for site that are similar in content to yours. Go through the tops twenty results and contact as many as you can by email to request exchanging links. Some will oblige, others won’t but this is a good place to start and if you only get four links from twenty it hasn’t taken you long.

If you are a member of a forum, check their signature rules and if they allow HTML signatures add your link to it. This way every time you make a post a link to your site will be generated. Use ‘Anchor text’ too if you can for your keyword of choice.

Similarly to the above, if you post comments on blogs then add a link to you site in the post. Make sure you are allowed to do this first by checking with the blog owner. Many blog comment boxes have a section for adding your site so look out for that.

Web 2.0 or social media sites can be a good way to build links. Go to social bookmarking sites such as Digg, Netvous, Delicious and Furl to add you links to news stories or bookmarking features. Make sure you always add your anchor text where possible and always include valuable and decent content when needed.

Creating a Squidoo ‘len’s is always a good idea. Create a page with information about your site and link to it.

Submit your website into the correct category of website directories. The main one is DMOZ but there are thousands of others and can be a useful link building technique. Again this is very time consuming but services like LinkBuildingElite can do this for you.

If you have more than one website or a blog of your own, then link your new site from them.

Avoid spamming link software. The best way to get links is to do it manually. Much software available for this purpose is considered a spamming technique and again could get you penalised by the search engines. Build your links slowly but steadily and you will see results over time.

There are many methods to build backlinks but those mentioned above are a very good place to start, so get going!

Directory Submission Guide And Link Building With Directory Submissions

Link Building with Directory Submission

Link Building is very crucial in search engine optimization. It denotes the process of building external links so that a user browsing a website could easily find more or other relevant info on the same topic by referring to those links. Search engines give due weightage to similar practices and rank such websites higher than ordinary ones. In their ranking process, search engines consider links pointing to a website as ‘votes’ to the respective website, an appreciation to its relevance or importance given by other websites, and hence rates such websites higher in the order amongst search results. In short, the more the links pointing towards a website, the better will be its page rank. But, on a finer scale, it should also be kept in mind that most of the links pointing towards a website must be from high ranked pages for better page rankings. Further, out of context links does more damage than providing any real benefit.

So, how to get other websites link to your website? Well, one way to achieve that is through directory submissions. There is an assortment of search engine friendly directories available – such as open directory project, MSN and Yahoo – that will be ready to link to your website provided it includes relevant information and confirms with their guidelines and rules of submission. But, care must be taken that you are submitting your website to only relevant directories and to the right categories and not anything in random. Well, it may take a bit of research and effort to get your website submitted in the relevant and popular directories, but once your website could make a permanent listing in the popular directory or directories, soon the traffic to the website will increase and more advertisements and permanent links starts to flow in with enhanced ease. Once reached that level, the link building will become self sustaining and the search engine rankings also will improve accordingly, provided your website continues to provide useful and relevant contents in a consistent manner.

Tail Piece: The difference between search engines and directory submissions is that in the latter, it is human editors who decide on the final submission location and not any automated tool. Since it is human editors who are making the final call, chances are high that a website might reach its right destination in terms of directory/category, most of the times.

How to Get Better Acceptance in Directory Submission

It is clear from the foregoing that directory submission could contribute immensely to link building. But, how to get your website acceptable to directories? In order to get better acceptance in directory submissions, the first thing to take note is to make your website relevant to the directories. Any thing junk or random is not entertained by any of the popular directories. Further, submitting your webpage in to right categories makes the process quicker and such pages will generally gets listed without any delay. Remember, it is manual editors who accepts or rejects applications for submissions, and for a person who might be viewing thousands of web pages daily, it is far easier to reject a page than accepting it. So, how simple and straight you could make your submissions as possible, the more are the chances of it getting listed in the directories.

Another aspect that goes a long way in enhancing acceptance in directories is the way the titles, description and keywords are organized for a web page. Every directory will have their own rules and regulations, and hence web pages must also be organized around such constraints. Regarding descriptions, most directories require it to be short – in the range of 100 – 250 words that may vary from one directory to another – crisp, and to the point. Descriptions that are huge or of ‘beating around the bush’ type are generally showed the door by the directory editors. The same is the benchmark for keywords as well – it needs to be more organized and focused, and not just another group of irrelevant and relevant ones mixed randomly. In that regard, it will be prudent to make a short list of all prospective keywords first before finalizing the most optimal keyword for submission. That will ease the job for you.

Finally, do not spam your directory listings with words being used uncontrollably and insensibly. Directory editors hate such practices and similar applications are rejected outright without any chance for a second consideration.

The Tweeter Getter List Building Tool For Growing Your Twitter New Followers List to 19,777 in Less Than 30 Days

Hey, if you’re not using Twitter to build a list of people you can start a relationship for your business, you should take a look at this marketing medium. It’s the fastest and most effective networking tool I’ve seen and used in my marketing business.

Now there’s a new tool that’s using viral marketing to build your Twitter following… it’s called “Tweeter Getter” – Here are some things you should know about this viral marketing system.

I started using Twitter Getter yesterday, and yes, it has already started building my Twitter follower list by about a 1,056 more followers. Now let me remind you, previously to yesterday I did not even have a Twitter account. The 1,056 followers are brand new in only 24 hours, on a brand new Twitter page.

I’ve also been seeing the followers list grow for others who started to market this viral tool, so I’m convinced it is indeed working and growing. I have to say that the day also bought me my record optins for my regular website which I have listed on Twitter. So to answer the question of does it bring traffic, I can say most definitely yes.

Because of the emails I received from well know internet marketers I have know for years and some great conversations with new followers who came to me from Twitter Getter, I really like the results. That’s why today I’ve started a quick marketing campaign for it, and a Backpage.com Ad campaign.. I think this is a unusual opportunity since it is so new, and I learned a long time ago that the first one in a new market usually wins.

At first, I hesitated to share Twitter Getter because I didn’t take the time… but after studying the Viral Marketing Capacity I decided to test it for a weekend. People always ask me about marketing ideas, and my answer is, test it, if if works keep doing it, but if not, trash it plain and simple..

My Twitter Getter Test started as a test to see if I could get quality visitors to my website. Now I’m happy I did because I am seeing that the list of followers that are joining from it are my exact target audience (business or marketing minded people)–I’ve even started developing some great discussions and relationships revolving around the services I offer so these Twitter followers are as good as they come. It is a pleasure to talk with these people because they are like minded business people.

Here’s What I Told My Computer Webmaster — If You Share This Tool Make sure it adds value to people’s lives and helps them to promote their passion. It’s an exciting opportunity to use a viral building tool like Tweeter Getter to help build an audience more quickly using a social site as new as Twitter .

This tool does have the potential to give you a short cut to building your Twitter follower list if you use it and share it. But, like anything else you have to promote it for it to work. You can send it to your list for them to test, you can buy pay per clicks, you can run ezine ads, you can write an article based on your experience of your test, and you could also post ads letting people know about your test results.

It is important to point out that as people join your list through Tweeter Getter, it is worthless to you unless you learn to create value for the people that are following you. As long as you do that, you’ll build long term quality relationships and generate business with Twitter Getter. I have found that those who join through Tweeter Getter are most likely business or marketing minded people who are open to improving their web presence. If that fits your business’ target market it is a good fit, and I always say to test it and let the results speak for themselves.

Link Building | Get More Backlinks for Better Search Engine Placement

Do you have a website, blog, squidoo lens or any other type of site? Are trying to make money through natural search engine positioning? If you are then you better learn how to get quality backlinks, and lots of them.

I build small niche websites, and then count on search engine traffic to sell products/services from my sites. To do this I have to do some keyword research to make sure it’s possible to dominate that term. I also have to do some great SEO tactics on my page.

More than that I have to build backlinks and tons of them. I do a variety of things to build backlinks, some are boring and tedious and some have been outsourced so I can focus my time on more profitable endeavors.

I know there are some basic ways to build links and I have been brainstorming some other ways as well. I think I have come up with some interesting ways to build some links, so I’m going to share them with you.

Free Link Building Ideas

Article Marketing ~ add your link with keyword anchor text in your resource box

Forum Posts ~ add your link with keyword anchor text in your sig file

Blog Comments ~ keyword in the “name” area, and then your url. (will create a hot link with anchor text)

Comments at Ezine Articles ~ this one just occurred to me recently. I checked the source code and they do not appear to use the “no follow” attribute, so google should count these links. You may even get traffic from these too. I just enter my main keyword, and add a relevant comment to the article. I use this like I would a blog comment with my keyword in the name area and then my url. You have to wait for EZA to approve your comment, but it’s worth it.

Set up Google Alert for keywords ~ each time I set up a new site I also set up a google alert for the keyword. I only choose to get alerts from blogs. Now each time someone posts a blog on my keyword I know about it and can get over there and add a comment.

Build free Blogs ~ Build a blog at wordpress.com, blogger, tumblr or wherever. You can do this blog on a related topic and add your site in the blogroll. This will give you a link for each page you publish on this blog. I use PLR for these blogs, and just change up the articles a little bit so they are more original. You can also add links within the articles to your blog for added links.

Hubpages and Squidoo ~ build pages at both of these free sites. Make sure to add a link to your site using keywords as your anchor text. At squidoo you can also add a link to your product or service you are promoting. Depending on how you want to use Hubpages I would be careful adding links to affiliate products over there. I just use hubpages as a way to get one more link from a quality source to my new niche site.

Myspace ~ set up a myspace profile and only add friends that are related to your niche site. You can quickly and easily do this with myspace friend adder software like Friend Blaster Pro. You can then use any/all the article you have written for your site and/or blogs as bulletins to send to your friends list or on your myspace blog. This will get you nice backlinks as well as targeted traffic.

Zimbio ~ this site is new to me. I have used it for my squidoo lenses, by adding my lensmaster RSS feed url from Squid Utils it will post each new lens I write on Zimbio. You can do this with the RSS feeds for each of your sites, including your main niche site, as well as any free blogs you set up. Make sure to do this first so it will catch all your articles as you put them up.

Directory Submission ~ there are tons of directories you can add your site url to. I set the timer for 30 minutes and just go as fast as I can submitting. I do this at least once a day for 30 minutes.

Wis.dm ~ A fun little site where you can ask a question. There is space for you to submit a url where people can find the answer. Just think of a question that relates to your niche and then add your site url in the space provided.

Twitter ~ not sure how good this is for backlinks, but if you have some people following you, it might be worth sending a quick tweet about your new site. You might just mention you found a cool site etc, so as not to give away all your niches :)

If you want to take things to the next level there are also service you can join to build links. They work a few different ways. You generally pay a monthly fee to join.

I keep remembering recently reading a comment that really stuck with me. It was said you should be spending 90% of your time building links. When I thought about how much time I was spending in this area it was probably about .5%. Stay focused, and set up a system for yourself and you too can build tons of great backlinks.

5 Proven Backlink Building Tactics For The Bloggers

Very often a blog is a sort of the side medium and the blog owner does not have enough time to build the required amount of backlinks. So it is very useful to know that the job can be automated.

This article tells about 5 backlink building techniques, which I have used successfully for my blog.

1.The Article Marketing.

It is easy to write articles if you are a blogger, the two jobs are so close to each other. The articles will bring a lot of backlinks rapidly, if the writer uses a mass distribution system to hundreds or thousands of websites and article directories.

These written articles must be optimized using effective keywords. This is cricial, because people will find the article using the same keywords than what the article writer has used.

The article writer, a blogger, has to remember that a mass distribution means a lot of dublicated content. This means that these widely distributed articles will not climb to the first places on the result pages of the search engines but will work effectively by bringing a lot of visitors and backlinks.

2.The Reciprocal Link Building

This is another effective way to get targeted visitors and links. The term reciprocal link means that your blog and another related blog both has a link pointing to each other. It is a sort of a co operation.

How you can get reciprocal links? Okay, first you can use a manual system and join some link exchange program or you can mail to a single blog owner and ask if he wants to change links. These both ways are relatively slow.

Then you can buy some software, which is a powerful way to build a lot of related links. However a blogger must be careful, because if the linklist will be too big, the search engines will see it as a sort of a link farm and punish the blog.

3. Take Your Blog To The Groups Of The Search Engines.

The biggest search engines have different groups and you can join some of them and get the blog url there. By writing some quality post you can get traffic to the blog and some backlinks.

4.The Blog Content Quality Is Still The King.

The most effective short and long term backlink builder is the quality content of the blog. This means that a blogger must take the blog seriously. It is not a diary but a business tool. When blog visitors like the content, they will bookmark the blog or even quote the posts, which both mean a good amount of backlinks, visitors and a nice image.

A blogger must never use his own articles as blog posts, because they are dublicate content.

5.Writing To The Forums.

The same topic forum posts work effectively in backlink building. Here also the quality works best. Every single post builds credibility and does the preselling work. When the blog url is in the sig file, every post build a backlink to the blog.

The posts can also be optimized, which makes it possible for the search engines to rank them on the result pages.

Using Directories for Building Links

Using Directories For Building Links

Building quality links back to your website is crucial for high rankings in the SERPS. To get your link building started it is a good idea to submit your site for inclusion in directories.

What is a directory?

A directory is a sorted, classified collection of resources, and a web directory has the added benefit of linking directly to the resource. A web directory is divided into categories and subcategories, placing an individual entry in an area with other similar and relevant entries.

The most important directories

DMOZ, the Open Directory Project is the single most important directory. It carries the extra weight due to several factors.

* No paid inclusions; inclusion is based on quality

* Submissions are reviewed by a human editor

* The directory is frequently copied and used by other directory sites. The most important DMOZ clones are Google Directory and Alexa.

* No guaranteed inclusions

The Yahoo! Directory is another important directory. Much like DMOZ submissions are reviewed by humans, and web sites wishing to be included must meet some quality guidelines. A review for inclusion costs US$299 (nonrefundable), with a recurring annual fee of US$299 to maintain the listing. Inclusion is not guaranteed.

Other directories

Beside these there are thousands upon thousands of directory sites, with different rules for inclusion. Some are completely free, some require a reciprocal link back, and some are fee based. Some are general, and others are focused on some particular topic. The quality of these directory sites vary. When choosing which directories to submit to remember that no links to your site can hurt you in the search engines (if that wasn’t the case a company could bomb its competitor with “bad links” to hurt their rankings). So the only potential loss when submitting to a bad quality directory is your time, valuable as it may be.

Are directories the be all-end all of link building?

No. Directories should be a part of your link building strategy, but they should not be your main focus. Go for the most important ones, and then pick a few quality directories focused on your topic.

Staying in Twitter’s Good Graces While Building Followers Fast

If you are fairly new to Twitter, there are probably some things about it you don’t yet know, but that you need to know. Where Twitter is concerned ignorance is NOT bliss. In fact, break a rule or two and you can get your Twitter account suspended. I have not personally experienced this, but have seen many suspended accounts in a few short months of tweeting. Just from that casual observation I can tell you I don’t want to experience it!

OK… so your Twitter account is open and you have a few followers but you would like to have a lot more. As you look around on Twitter you see people with thousands of followers. In fact, about mid-month April 2009, one Ashton Kutcher became the first member of Twitter to have over one million followers. How did he do that? I haven’t a clue, but how to get one million followers is not what this article is about. I just wanted to point out that having a lot of followers is possible, if you do it right.

There are some guidelines at Twitter that you will need to observe. The first one is to realize that Twitter forces you to start slow. You need to try to balance your followers with those you are following. I’m not talking about the need to follow who is following you, but that the number of followers and those you are following stay fairly close. This is most important while those following you total less than 2000. Until you get to that number you will not normally be able to follow more than 2000 yourself.

Start by following people you know. Follow all of them as they are likely to follow you back. Then start to add others, that you don’t know, but might like to know. You can use Twitter’s search feature to find people with interests similar to yours. Follow them, but don’t follow too many each day. You will probably be ok to follow 50 new each day, or 10% above the number of your followers, whichever is larger. Once you get past the 2000 block imposed by Twitter you will be able to step this up a bit, but in any event you probably won’t want to follow more than 15% above the number of people following you. Twitter has some sort of stop in place, but they don’t let that out. Let’s assume you get to 5000 followers. That means you can follow around 5750. Since about 1/3 of the new people you follow will follow you back, that means of the 750 above 5000 about 250 will follow you back. Having a few over 8000 following me, I am following a little over 9000.

I don’t use any sort of qualifying to select who I will follow, except I follow people following interesting people. I make the assumption there will be common ground. I try and follow all the new people I am going to follow on Friday, and stop following all who are not following me back each Thursday. That way I am covering the weekend users and giving the weekday users several days to follow me back.

OK… time for some personal bias. I don’t follow anyone who does not have a picture posted to their Twitter profile. It does not necessarily have to be a picture of them, but there must be some picture posted. My reasoning here is that if they won’t even take the time to put up a picture, they probably are not serious about Twitter and probably won’t be around very long. Most of the time I won’t follow those who don’t have a person’s name. I like to avoid the strange ones out there. I also won’t follow any one with evidence of any sexual overtones. If I see any profanity in their posts I immediately un-follow. I don’t follow anyone with any sort of title in their name line, especially Dr. or PHD. The reason is simple… my experience has been that they don’t follow back.

All you really need to do is set a regular somewhat conservative routine of following and un-following and you will be into the big numbers before you know it. Happy Tweeting!

Traffic Building in the Land of Twitter

Consider it micro marketing. This is the world of Twitter. You have no more than 140 characters (including spaces) to tell your followers (think friends) anything you want. Some users will respond with inane bits of uselessness that are designed to bring a smile while others will simply micro-blog about their day.

However, for the savvy marketer Twitter offers an impressive opportunity. Consider this, you want to tell new customers or inform existing customers about what you have to offer. Many potential clients will only respond to an eye catching opening statement.

Twitter provides a unique way to provide a human touch to your marketing. If you want to direct potential readers to a new blog then provide a link in your Twitter post. Many bloggers and news organizations will Twitter their latest news for quick access by those who have signed up to follow the organization.

It’s amazing how much you can actually say in the condensed environment of 140 characters. You’ll have to think in headlines. Make the phrase interesting and engaging. Provide the direct link.

If you are working on something specific for your blog you might even consider progress reports or teasers that describe a small window on the topic you will be covering in a future blog post.

Many marketers have found that if you Twitter your blog entries immediately you can actually access potential site visitors faster than using Real Simple Syndication (RSS). You can Twitter by phone (either text or voice) and even set up your blog to automatically post a twitter when you’ve published.

The primary way to start Twittering is to sign up (it’s free). You may find immediate followers or you might seek out a few existing customers. As your Twitter traffic grows you will likely find that you will have more ‘followers’ than those you are following. For the marketer that’s exactly what you want. It may be difficult for you to follow everyone interested in what you have to offer so be happy to gain a large following and limit those you follow to those you are actually interested in knowing more about.

Twitter is casual, human and consistent. This allows you to keep in touch simply and pointedly. Customers may even welcome multiple short messages as opposed to something the size of an ezine.

When interested parties check on your profile they can see immediately several of your most recent posts. This will provide the impression needed to determine if they want to be followers.

Many websites will have buttons that allow visitors to share that page with others. This is also true with Twitter. You can add a Twitter button on your page and allow other users to send your information through their own micro-posts. It’s simple and viral. One visitor who takes your Twitter link and runs with it can turn your information into hot property in a short period of time.

Twitter is a microscopic add on that can have a profound impact on your marketing objectives. It can change the dynamics of site traffic and appeals to the fast paced media saturated culture that seems to live and die by sound bites.
